This July, the Hartree Centre North East Hub reached the end of its second year of supporting SMEs.
Over the past twelve months, we have been building on insights gained in year one, pivoting support opportunities to better suit our audiences, and we have been supporting an even wider range of small-and-medium-sized organisations from across the North of England and beyond.
Our delivery team have hosted a larger number of workshops in new locations, allowing us to work with new partners. We have also worked closely with a multitude of organisations to develop data solutions as part of our collaborative data projects offering.
Read on for all of the highlights.
In the last 12-month period, we have run six successful workshops, attracting even more SMEs and tapping into new areas such as Middlesbrough, York, Northallerton and Gateshead. We are pleased to announce that we have now supported 54 eligible SMEs that were looking to improve their data strategies.
Workshops were themed around topics such as value innovation, large language models, machine learning and more.
Did you miss out on our workshops last year? There are more workshops on the horizon, with our next one happening in Newcastle on the 17th of September. Click here to register for your place.
Our team of Data Scientists have completed 7 collaborative data projects with SMEs this year, with two more underway, after having run four more competitive open calls.
The Data Projects are up to 3 months long and involve working closely with our data scientists to scope your data science or engineering project, build a prototype solution, and explore options to deploy it within your organisation. If you would like to read about some of the projects that we have completed, you can view our case studies here.
It has been a real joy for our team to meet and work with some really amazing organisations, making a difference across the UK and further afield. Here is some of the feedback that we have received over the past year.
“The workshop at the Hartree Centre North East Hub was a fantastic introduction to data science, covering a wide range of topics with clarity and depth. The course leader was incredibly engaging and knowledgeable, making complex concepts easy to understand and relatable. A perfect starting point for anyone looking to explore the world of data science!”

“Excellent course with the material delivered understandably, with a lot of interaction to reinforce the delivery. Gained insights into the complexity of Data Science, and an overview of Gen AI and how it could potentially be used to drive business growth in new and existing sectors. In addition, important business knowledge around value chains was passed on which is invaluable to start-up businesses. Thanks once again, I did enjoy the day. Will be recommending to others.”

"The team at the Hartree Centre North East Hub were very good at helping us to realise the intricacies of data manipulation and the array of tools on offer. We are much more aware of the data science process in solving these problems. We are going away with not only a better understanding of how we can integrate what the team at the Hartree Centre North East Hub have done, but also where to start when approaching a data problem like this in the future."
