My role within the Hartree Centre North East Hub is to work with companies on 12-week collaborative data projects to solve business problems using data. I aim to deliver an exploration through data related business problems and try to provide some form of proof-of-concept and hand-off for the businesses to gain insight into how to tackle the problem or provide direction toward a solution to their problem.
Learn about our collaborative data projects here.
My favourite element of the role so far has been working to solve real business challenges and problems from a variety of different domains with various techniques.
It has been most interesting to delve into the practical use and limitations of large language models for a variety of different projects, as this is an area of interest for many businesses currently. It has also been interesting to see how different clients and businesses interact and engage with us on the collaborative projects.
When facing a business problem, it's important to consider whether data can help provide insights into the issue. If relevant data is already collected, curated, or can be obtained, it may be valuable to leverage it in solving the problem. The key is to start by understanding the potential business value: clearly articulate the impact solving the problem could have, explain the role data can play, and define how it will be used to generate solutions.
We are here to help. If you would like to learn more about how to get started with data, get in touch or come along to one of our workshops.
In my downtime I like playing fast metal songs on the electric guitar.
