Our team of Data Scientists at the Hartree Centre North East Hub recently worked with Ghostwriter Consultancy & Events to create interactive dashboards, making it easy to analyse timely data and improve decision making in the UK live music ticketing sector.

Challenge

The UK live music ticketing sector is highly fragmented, with multiple stakeholders and agents managing their own ticket allocations. Data was collected in Excel sheets twice a week, often containing duplicates (similar text). This made data consolidation, cleaning, and analysis both time-consuming and error-prone, limiting the ability of stakeholders to gain timely insights into ticket sales and allocations.

Approach

Data Scientists from the Hartree Centre North East Hub worked alongside Ghostwriter Consultancy & Events to address these challenges. The project began by manually cleaning Excel files to remove empty rows and resolve duplicates.  The team then built a modular Python data pipeline using notebooks for each ETL stage: concatenation, column selection, profiling, data type standardisation, and name harmonisation (using LLMs). Once ready, the cleaned, standardised dataset was then exported as CSV for further analysis. The processed data was then imported into Google Looker, where an interactive dashboard was developed. This dashboard enables stakeholders to explore ticket sales, allocations, and trends in real time.

Benefits

At the end of the project, Ghostwriter has a solution that transformed fragmented, inconsistent ticketing data into a reliable analytics resource. Manual cleaning time was reduced, and stakeholders now have access to clear, interactive dashboards for better decision-making across the UK live music industry.
